Skin Cancer Clinic

Skin cancer is a common condition in Australia.  Those most at risk are individuals with fair skin, a history of multiple sunburns, outdoor occupations or sports, multiple moles, or a family history of skin cancer.

What is the Skin Cancer Clinic?

The Skin Cancer Clinic, located onsite at NWD, is a specialised service focused exclusively on mole checks and the treatment of skin cancers. It is part of an integrated model that brings together the expertise of Dermatologists, Plastic Surgeons and Skin Cancer Doctors to provide a coordinated and comprehensive approach to patient care.

Total Body Photography

Total Body Photography (TBP) involves capturing high-resolution images of the entire skin surface across 22 views, providing a comprehensive record of an individual’s moles. This set of digital photographs serves as a baseline, aiding in the monitoring of skin cancer, including melanoma.

You will receive a digital copy of these images, which you can use independently or share with your GP during future skin checks. A copy will also be securely stored in your file at NWD. By repeating and comparing these photographs annually under the guidance of a Dermatologist or Skin Cancer Doctor, TBP offers an accurate way to track and monitor any changes or growth in spots on your skin.

TBP is particularly beneficial for individuals with numerous of moles, a history of melanoma, or a strong family history of melanoma. Research confirms that for high-risk individuals, TBP can be effective in detecting melanoma at an early, potentially curable stage.
